First off It’s a hugh honor to be selected team captain for the coming season. Realistically there were a number of lads that could have been chosen for the job, I am delighted to do it and will do everything I can to make it a success. In relation to keeping this page updated - Ive been told from the GHSC that Shane Kav did a super blog last year so I have to keep up the standard.....its fair to say I didn’t really know what a blog was until recently so I have some work to do I think!!
The league start has been very positive for us. We are currently at the top of the division 1 table with a healthy scoring average. Having a home game to begin with is always a good way to start and everyone was keen to use it to our advantage. Over the coming weeks we have some travelling to do - starting away to Cork on March 6th which is sure to be a big test. We don't have a league game this weekend so we have a pretty heavy training schedule mixing gym, pitch and a practice game. Next week will be lighter as we prepare for the Cork game.
Our medical team are pretty busy at the moment as we have a long list of injuries….and it appears to be getting longer with Joseph Cooney breaking a thumb on his senior debut against Wexford and Ger Mahon picking up a bad foot injury last week against Offaly meaning he is going to be in cast for 6 weeks. Injury is every players worst nightmare and it can be difficult to stay positive when everyone else is training and playing. Hopefully our injury list will begin to decrease in the coming weeks.
This weekend we are supporting the Shave or Dye campaign for the Irish Cancer Society, at training on Wednesday we pulled some names out of a hat...those pulled are shaving their heads this Saturday (Feb 26th) in Supermac's Eyre square at 1pm. Cancer currently affects 1 in every 3 people in Ireland so its for a really good cause and we are happy to be able to support it. We are also looking forward to seeing the new styles at training on Sunday morning!!!!!! If you would like to support the lads participating you can call in to Supermacs eyre square on Saturday to make a donation.
