Three in running for Manager

Anthony Cunningham has been joined by two other contenders in the race to become Galway's next senior hurling manager.

Cunningham, who led the Tribesmen's Under 21s to All-Ireland glory this year, is set to be interviewed by an appointments committee, along with Michael Donoghue, who managed Clarinbridge to an All-Ireland club success back in March, and former Portumna All-Ireland winning manager, Johnny Kelly.

The appointments committee's recommendations is set to go before a hurling board meeting on Monday, October 24, when a successor to John McIntyre is likely to be appointed.

The interview panel will consist of hurling board officials Joe Byrne (chairman), Pat Kearney (secretary) and John McGann (treasurer), county board chairman Gerry Larkin and club delegates Michael Kelly (Ballindereen) and Martin Bellew (Padraig Pearses).

The new manager will be appointed to a three-year term, with a review carried out after two seasons.
